The Labor Department report showed that 163,000 jobs were added to the workforce in July. The good news is that after 3 months of dismal hiring, these are the best jobs numbers since February.

The president and his allies were quick to celebrate. Obama said, "That means we have how created 4.5 million new jobs over the last 29 months and 1.1 million new jobs so far this year. Those are our neighbors and family members finding work and the security that comes with work."
The press almost instantaneously began to spin the positive numbers. MSNBC's headlines went as far as to say, "Good Jobs News for Obama." One CNN reporter actually said, "Although it is not time to pull out the party hats, 163,000 jobs added in July shows that things are continuing to move in the right direction."
But in all the back slapping and smiles, there is one blaring truth that the president and the press chose to gloss over---the unemployment number rose to 8.3%.
Sorry Mr. President, but thousands and thousands of our "neighbors and family members" also continue to lose their jobs. Fewer people are now working compared to the month before. Unemployment has remained over 8% for the longest period in American history---42 straight months---and we are supposed to celebrate that your efforts are working?

John Sununu, former New Hampshire Governor appeared yesterday on The Situation Room and was quite critical of the jobs report. He said, "There were 175,000 fewer people working last month than the month before. If the president wants to brag about 163,000 new workers, the 152,000 who lost their job are not very happy to hear what the president has to say about trying to spin this as good news." If the president wants us to celebrate these numbers, then basically he is asking Americans to settle for mediocrity.
When have Americans ever been willing to do that?
The spirit of America has always strived for greatness and the resolve of our people has always made it possible.
The Olympic games are a perfect reflection of it. For the past several days, we have gathered around our televisions to watch our athletes achieve unimaginable recognition for their years of hard work and sacrifice. We have been moved as we observe parents tenderly beam with pride at the success of their children.

How different would things would be at home if our leaders were willing to fight with the same resolve? How different things could be if our leaders were more concerned about the welfare of our people and less driven by the security of their own jobs?
When it comes to our economy, America should not settle. Sorry MSNBC, CNN and the Obama camp, but 163,000 jobs added after trillions and trillions of dollars have been spent is mediocre at best---8.3% unemployment is nothing to celebrate.
For nearly 4 years, our president has done his very best to make things better and yet, this is where we still are? This is what his best provides?
Mediocrity at best.
I am one American who refuses to settle for mediocrity.
I'll continue to support the candidate whose entire career reflects an individual who refused to settle for average or mediocre. Mitt Romney's resume is filled with successes where he helped businesses and organizations achieve a greatness that they could never have achieved on their own.

Go Mitt.
